# How your pages appear in search

> Control the title and summary that show under your page on Google, and hide any page you don't want to appear in search results.

When your page shows up on Google, three things decide how it looks: the **title** people click, the short **summary** underneath it, and whether the page appears in search **at all**. Glowply fills all of these in for you automatically, and you can fine-tune them on any page.

<Note>
  These details work out of the box — you don't have to set anything up. Glowply generates a sensible title and summary for every page, and you only step in when you want to polish an important page. For the bigger picture, start with the [SEO overview](/en/marketing/seo).
</Note>

You'll find these settings two places:

* **Site-wide defaults** — in your site dashboard under **Marketing (التسويق) → SEO (تحسين محركات البحث)**.
* **Per page** — in the **SEO** settings shown while you edit any page or product.

  Page title
</h2>

The **page title** is the headline that shows in search results and at the top of the browser tab. It's the single most important detail for getting clicks, because it tells searchers exactly what the page is about.

Glowply builds a title for every page automatically, in this shape:

* **Home page:** *Site name – Site description*
* **Any other page:** *Page title – Site name*

So a page called *About* on a site named *Nour Store* becomes **About – Nour Store** with no work from you.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the page">
    In your site dashboard, edit the page or product whose title you want to change.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find the SEO settings">
    Open the page's **SEO** settings and look for the **page title** field.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write a clear title">
    Enter a title that names the page and includes your business or product — for example *Vanilla Soy Candles — Nour Store*. Aim for roughly **50–60 characters** so it isn't cut off in results.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  When you write your own title, it's used exactly as you typed it — your site name isn't added to the end. So include your business name yourself if you want it there.
</Tip>

<h2 id="meta-description">
  Search description
</h2>

The **search description** is the short paragraph shown under the title in search results. A clear, inviting description gives people a reason to click your link instead of the next one.

If you don't write one, Glowply creates the description automatically from the page's own content, so every page already has something sensible. Writing your own gives you full control over the first impression.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the page's SEO settings">
    Edit the page or product and open its **SEO** settings.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write the description">
    Add one or two natural sentences (around **150 characters**) that sum up the page. Describe what visitors will find — don't just list keywords.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save and publish">
    Save your changes. New text can take a little while to appear in search results.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Keep the description under about **160 characters**. Anything longer gets trimmed in search results, so put the most important words first. A description you write yourself is never trimmed for you — keep it tight on purpose.
</Tip>

  Hide a page from search
</h2>

Most of the time you *want* your pages on Google. But some pages — a thank-you page, a private draft, an internal page — are better kept out of search results. You can hide any single page so search engines leave it out.

Glowply already keeps the right pages out of search automatically, so you rarely need to touch this. Pages hidden for you include:

* The "page not found" page
* On-site search results pages
* Private or empty pages that have no real content for visitors

To hide a specific page yourself:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the page">
    Edit the page or product you want to hide.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open its SEO settings">
    Find the **SEO** settings for that page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Turn on “Hide from search results”">
    Enable the option to **hide the page from search results**, then save. Search engines will leave this page out from now on.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  Hiding a page removes it from Google and other search engines — people won't find it by searching. Only hide pages you genuinely don't want discovered. To hide your whole site while you build it, use [Maintenance mode](/en/site/maintenance-mode) instead.
</Warning>
