# SEO

> SEO helps people find your site on Google. Learn how to set page titles, meta descriptions, friendly URLs, and social share previews, plus simple best practices for pages and products.

**SEO** stands for *search engine optimization* — the simple steps that help people find your site when they search on Google and other search engines. Good SEO makes your business show up for the right searches and look inviting in the results, so more visitors click through to you.

You manage SEO from your **site dashboard**, under **Marketing (التسويق) → SEO (تحسين محركات البحث)**. Most of the work is done page by page: you give each page a clear **title**, a short **description**, a tidy **web address**, and a nice **share preview**.

<Info>
  SEO lives in your **site dashboard**, not your account portal. Your account portal is only for billing — your subscription, **Wallet**, and account details. To work on SEO, open your site dashboard with the **Glowply dashboard** button. See [Site dashboard overview](/en/site/dashboard-overview).
</Info>

<Note>
  Glowply handles SEO through a built-in optimization tool, so you don't install or set up anything. You just fill in the details for each page, and your site takes care of the technical parts behind the scenes.
</Note>

## What SEO controls

A few small details decide how your page appears in search results and when it's shared. These are the parts you'll set:

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Page title" icon="heading">
    The headline that shows in Google results and at the top of the browser tab. It tells searchers — and search engines — what the page is about.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Meta description" icon="align-left">
    The short summary under the title in search results. A clear, inviting description encourages people to click.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Web address (URL)" icon="link">
    The friendly link to your page, like `/about` or `/candles`. Short, readable addresses are easier to share and rank better.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Share preview" icon="share-nodes">
    The title, description, and image that appear when your page is shared on social media or messaging apps.
  </Card>

## Open your SEO settings

Site-wide SEO options live in the **Marketing** section. This is where you set defaults that apply across your whole site.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open your site dashboard">
    Sign in to Glowply, open your **account portal**, and click **Glowply dashboard** on your site card. Your dashboard opens in a new tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Go to Marketing → SEO">
    In the left-side menu, choose **Marketing (التسويق)**, then **SEO (تحسين محركات البحث)**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set your site-wide basics">
    Add your **site name** and a default **description**. These are used across your site and as a fallback whenever a single page doesn't have its own title or description.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Fill in your site name and a one-line description of your business first. That gives every page a sensible default before you fine-tune the important pages one by one.
</Tip>

## Set the SEO for a single page

The most important SEO work is done on each page. You set a page's title, description, address, and preview while you edit it.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the page">
    In your site dashboard, go to **Pages (الصفحات)** and open the page you want to optimize — for example your **Home** or **About** page. (For a product, open it under **Store → Products** instead.)
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find the SEO settings">
    Look for the **SEO** settings for that page. This is where you enter the title, description, and address that search engines and social apps will use.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write a clear title">
    Enter a **page title** that says what the page is and includes your business or product name — for example *Vanilla Soy Candles — Nour Store*. Aim for roughly 50–60 characters so it isn't cut off in results.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write a short description">
    Add a **meta description** of about one or two sentences (around 150 characters) that sums up the page and gives people a reason to click. Write naturally — describe what visitors will find.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tidy up the web address">
    Check the page's **address** (also called the *slug* or *permalink*). Keep it short and readable, using words instead of numbers — for example `/about` or `/vanilla-candle`. See [Friendly web addresses](#friendly-web-addresses) below.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the share preview">
    Choose the **image, title, and description** that appear when the page is shared on social media. A good preview image makes your links stand out. See [Social share previews](#social-share-previews) below.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save and publish">
    Save your changes, and make sure the page is **published** so search engines can find it. New or updated pages can take a little while to appear in search results.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Check>
  After publishing, search Google for your business name or page title. It can take days or weeks for a new page to appear — search engines update on their own schedule.
</Check>

## Friendly web addresses

A page's **web address** (its URL) is the link people see and share. A friendly address is short, uses real words, and hints at what the page contains.

| Less friendly                      | Friendly             |
| ---------------------------------- | -------------------- |
| `/page?id=42`                      | `/about`             |
| `/product-00193`                   | `/vanilla-candle`    |
| `/Our-New-Summer-Collection-2025!` | `/summer-collection` |

Tips for good addresses:

* **Use words, not numbers** — `/contact` is clearer than `/p7`.
* **Keep it short** — a few words is plenty.
* **Use hyphens between words** — `/gift-sets`, not `/gift_sets` or `/giftsets`.
* **Stick to lowercase English letters, numbers, and hyphens** — avoid spaces, symbols, and capital letters.

<Warning>
  Changing the address of a page that's already live means its old link stops working — anyone who bookmarked or linked to it lands on a "not found" page. Set the address once when you create a page, and avoid changing it afterward. If you must change it, update any links you've shared.
</Warning>

## Social share previews

When someone shares your page on social media or a messaging app, that platform shows a **preview card** — usually an image, the page title, and the description. Setting these makes your links look professional and clickable instead of plain.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose a preview image">
    Pick a clear, attractive image that represents the page — your logo, a product photo, or a banner. Wide (landscape) images display best. Upload it or pick one from your **Media library (مكتبة الوسائط)**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the preview title and description">
    These can match your page title and meta description, or you can write a shorter, punchier version made for social feeds.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the page">
    Save and publish. Now your links show a tidy preview wherever they're shared.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Add a share image to your most-shared pages first — your homepage, top products, and any page you promote on Instagram or WhatsApp. A good preview image can noticeably increase clicks.
</Tip>

## SEO for products

Your **Store** products are pages too, so they get the same SEO settings. Open a product under **Store (المتجر) → Products (المنتجات)** and find its **SEO** options.

* **Product title** — include the product name and a useful detail, like *Handmade Vanilla Soy Candle*.
* **Product description** — your normal product description helps search engines understand the item, so write it for real shoppers with honest, specific details.
* **Web address** — keep the product's link short and word-based, like `/vanilla-candle`.
* **Share preview** — use your best product photo as the share image so links look great when customers send them to friends.

<Note>
  Clear categories and tags help shoppers and search engines understand your catalog. They also create the menus and filters customers browse. See [Categories & tags](/en/store/categories-tags).
</Note>

## Simple best practices

A few habits go a long way. You don't need to be an expert — just be clear and consistent.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Give every page a unique title and description">
    Each page should have its own title and description that match what's on it. Avoid using the same title across pages — it confuses both visitors and search engines.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Write for people, not search engines">
    Use the words your customers would actually search for, written in plain language. Don't stuff keywords or repeat phrases — natural, helpful writing performs better and reads better.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Use clear headings on your pages">
    Structure each page with a strong main heading and helpful subheadings in the **Builder (البلدر)**. Headings help readers scan and help search engines understand your content.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Add descriptive text to your images">
    When you add images, give them descriptive **alt text** (a short phrase describing the picture). It helps search engines and makes your site usable for visitors who rely on screen readers. You manage this in your **Media library (مكتبة الوسائط)**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Keep your most important pages easy to reach">
    Link to your key pages from your menu and homepage. Pages that are easy for visitors to reach are also easier for search engines to find.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Be patient and keep your site fresh">
    SEO takes time — new pages don't appear in search instantly. Keep adding useful content, like blog posts, and update your pages when things change. See [Write your blog](/en/site/blog).
  </Accordion>

<Info>
  Your address always uses secure **HTTPS** automatically, which search engines prefer — there's nothing to set up. See [Site management](/en/account/site-management).

## Frequently asked questions

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Do I need to submit my site to Google?">
    No. Search engines discover and index public websites on their own over time. Just publish your pages and fill in their SEO details. New sites and pages can take days or weeks to appear in results.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why isn't my site showing up on Google yet?">
    New pages take time to be found and ranked — this is normal. Make sure the page is **published**, has a clear title and description, and is linked from your menu or homepage. Then give it time.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What's the difference between the page title and the title on my page?">
    The **page title** in your SEO settings is what shows in search results and the browser tab. The headings *on* your page (the big text visitors read) are set in the **Builder**. It's good for them to match closely, but they're set in two different places.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I change a page's web address later?">
    You can, but it's best not to once a page is live. The old link will stop working and anyone who saved or shared it will hit a "not found" page. Choose a good address when you first create the page.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How long should my title and description be?">
    Aim for a **title** of about 50–60 characters and a **description** of around 150 characters. Longer text gets cut off in search results, so put the most important words first.
  </Accordion>
