# Live events

> Live events show small real-time notifications of recent activity — like purchases and sign-ups — to build trust and encourage visitors to act. Learn what they are and how to turn them on and configure them.

**Live events (الأحداث المباشرة)** are small pop-up notifications that appear on your site to show recent activity in real time — for example, *"Sara from Cairo just bought Vanilla Soy Candle"* or *"3 people signed up today"*. They're a gentle form of **social proof**: seeing that other people are buying and joining reassures new visitors and nudges them to act too.

You'll find Live events in your **site dashboard**, under **Marketing (التسويق) → Live events (الأحداث المباشرة)**.

<Info>
  Live events live in your **site dashboard**, not your account portal. Your account portal is only for billing — your subscription, **Wallet**, and account details. To set up Live events, open your site dashboard with the **Glowply dashboard** button. See [Site dashboard overview](/en/site/dashboard-overview).
</Info>

<Note>
  Live events are an **optional** marketing feature. Your site works perfectly without them — turn them on only if you'd like to highlight recent activity to visitors.
</Note>

## What Live events do

A Live event is a small card — usually in a corner of the screen — that pops up for a few seconds, then fades away. It shows something real that recently happened on your site, so visitors can see your store is active and trusted.

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Recent purchases" icon="cart-shopping">
    Show when someone buys a product, often with the product name and the buyer's city. Great for busy stores where new visitors want reassurance before ordering.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Recent sign-ups" icon="user-plus">
    Show when a new customer registers or joins your list. Useful for highlighting that people are choosing your business.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Activity counts" icon="chart-simple">
    Show a simple count, like how many people viewed a product or ordered recently, to signal that something is popular.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Custom messages" icon="bullhorn">
    Show a message you write yourself — for example a discount reminder or a welcome note — even when there's no recent sale to display.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

<Tip>
  Live events work best when they reflect **genuine** activity. Honest social proof builds lasting trust; exaggerated or fake notifications can make visitors doubt your store.
</Tip>

## Turn on Live events

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open your site dashboard">
    Sign in to Glowply, open your **account portal**, and click **Glowply dashboard** on your site card. Your dashboard opens in a new tab.
  </Step>

  </Step>

  <Step title="Enable the feature">
    Turn Live events **on**. Once enabled, notifications can start appearing to visitors on your live site based on the activity you choose to show.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose what to show">
    Pick which kinds of activity appear — for example recent **orders**, new **sign-ups**, or a **custom message**. Start with one type so the experience stays clear and uncluttered.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save your changes">
    Save, then open your live site to see how the notifications look to visitors.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Check>
  Visit your site in a normal browser tab (or on your phone) to preview Live events the way a real visitor sees them. Give it a moment — notifications usually appear a few seconds after the page loads.
</Check>

## Configure how they appear

Once Live events are on, you can fine-tune how often they show and how they look so they feel helpful rather than distracting. The exact options depend on your dashboard, but these are the common settings to look for.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Position on the screen">
    Choose which **corner** the notification appears in — typically bottom-left, bottom-right, top-left, or top-right. A bottom corner is usually the least intrusive and works well on both desktop and mobile.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Timing and frequency">
    Set how **long** each notification stays visible, the **gap** between notifications, and any **delay** before the first one appears. Slower, less frequent pop-ups feel more natural than a constant stream.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What information to include">
    Decide which details each notification shows — for instance the **product name**, the buyer's **city**, or a **time** like "2 hours ago". Showing a city without a full name keeps things friendly while respecting privacy.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Where they appear">
    Choose whether notifications show on **every page** or only on specific pages, such as your product or checkout pages. Limiting them to key pages can make them more relevant.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Look and style">
    Some setups let you adjust the notification's **style** so it matches your brand. Keep it simple and readable — a small, tidy card is more effective than a loud one.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

<Warning>
  Be thoughtful with **customer details**. Show only what helps build trust — a first name and city are usually plenty. Avoid displaying full names, phone numbers, email addresses, or anything else that could identify a customer or feel like an invasion of privacy.
</Warning>

## When to use Live events

Live events are most effective when there's real, regular activity to show. Use them to reassure first-time visitors and to highlight popular products during a busy period or a promotion.

* **A new store building trust** — show recent orders so visitors see that others are buying with confidence.
* **A sale or launch** — highlight the rush around a popular product or a limited-time offer.
* **Growing a list** — show new sign-ups to encourage more people to join.

<Note>
  If your store is brand new and quiet, recent-activity notifications may have little to show. You can wait until you have steady orders, or use a **custom message** in the meantime — and switch to live activity once sales pick up.
</Note>

## Best practices

A light touch works best. The goal is a subtle nudge, not a hard sell.

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Keep it honest">
    Only show activity that genuinely happened. Real social proof builds trust; fake notifications can backfire badly if visitors notice.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Don't overdo it">
    A notification every now and then is reassuring; one every few seconds is annoying. Use generous gaps and short display times so visitors barely notice the rhythm.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Respect privacy">
    Show a first name and city at most. Never display full contact details. When in doubt, show less.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Match your brand">
    Keep the wording warm and on-brand, and the design clean. A small, well-styled card fits your site; a flashy one distracts from it.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Test on mobile">
    Most visitors are on phones. Check that notifications don't cover important buttons like **Add to cart** or your menu on a small screen.
  </Accordion>

  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Will customers see each other's personal details?">
    Only what you choose to show, and you should keep that minimal. Limit notifications to a first name and city, and never include phone numbers, emails, or full addresses.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I show a message when there are no recent sales?">
    Yes, if you use a **custom message**. This lets you display a welcome note or a promotion even when there's no recent purchase to highlight — useful for a brand-new store.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do Live events slow down my site?">
